Lucerne Products

Lucerne, called Alfalfa in America, is a deep rooting legume with high levels of nutrients, but is very low in sugars. It is an especially good source of digestible fibre, protein and calcium, with high levels of carotene. This is the precursor of Vitamin A and an important anti-oxidant. It is a suitable feed for most equines, but is most valuable when building muscle and condition. When horses are coming back to work after a rest or illness, it provides all the right nutrients for developing muscle, but does not cause any hotting up, due to low sugar levels. This makes it safer for laminitics, horses prone to tying up and horses tending to get filled legs. It is also ideal for breeding stock and growing youngsters. Natives, Arabs, Warmbloods and Veterans all do well on various forms of Lucerne.

Lucie Nuts/Lucie Pellets

DE MJ/kg 9.7 - Net Weight: 20kg - Presentation: 10-12mm dia. pellets

The most economical and versatile way to feed lucerne. More choice than ever! We can now offer LuciePellets. This is the same high quality lucerne that goes into our LucieNuts, but the pellets are smaller at 6mm instead of 10-12mm of the Nuts.
If you prefer to use dry feeds this may be more appropriate. They also fit better into feed balls and are a little less expensive.
However, even if you may find feeding dry more convenient, it is better to feed at least well dampened and best to feed soaked - after all grazing is around 70% or more water

The Nuts are fatter than many pellets, with a coarser grist. Soaked, they form a fine chop. In small amounts, they can be mixed into plenty of soaked, unmolassed beet pulp. Soaked with beet pulp, they make a complete feed to replace hay for horses sensitive to dust. Elderly horses find this easy to eat. Safe for laminitics. A handful can be scattered around the stable or paddock to extend eating time and relieve boredom. Will provide muscle and top line without alteration to temperament.
